Welcome to the homepage of EWB-Oxford!
This is the official website of EWB-Oxford, which is a branch of the Engineers Without Borders UK (EWB-UK) international development charity and a student club within the University of Oxford.
Engineers Without Borders aims to facilitate human development and poverty alleviation through engineering. In a world where many men, women, and children lack basic goods and services and where the gap between rich and poor continues to widen, this goal is more crucial than ever.
If you'd like to discover how access to technology can help achieve this vision, or would simply like to find out more about us, please have a look around this website or check out the national EWB-UK homepage. Please also free to contact the EWB-Oxford committee for further information or if you have any questions.
A word from our president...
Welcome to our website! This is an exciting time to be a part of EWB-Oxford, as our branch and its parent national organisation are growing like never before this year.
At the branch level, our outreach programs are sending university students into local schools to raise awareness of development-related issues as well as inspire youth to tackle development challenges. We also organise EWB social events within the university, including speaker events, field trips, as well as charity pub quizzes and cocktail nights.
From a national perspective, more people than ever are getting a chance to experience development work firsthand via our placements and bursaries schemes. There are also lots of national training courses happening around the country, in which students from across the UK come together to meet and learn practical development skills.
The "E" in EWB may stand for engineering, but you don't have to be an engineer to join us. All you need to join us is an interest in development and in making sure that access to basic technology isn't a barrier in the fight against poverty. If this sounds like a worthy goal to you, then EWB-Oxford and EWB-UK have something to offer. If you'd like to get involved or find out more, feel free to contact me or any of my team with questions.
Bonolo Mathibela
President of EWB-Oxford
